Retro Scan of the Week: The Ultimate Pac-Man Room
March 12th, 2007 by Benj EdwardsSo tell me, Pac-Friends. How many of these Pac-Man items do you have? (Check the scans below to get a full description of all the items.)
Pac-Man this, Pac-Man that. It seems like they made a Pac-Man version of everything in the early 1980s. My brother’s friend had a metal Pac-Man trashcan that I was always jealous of (and to think that he wouldn’t give it to me!). Unfortunately, that item is not in the picture. My family bought a second-hand copy of the marblelicious Pac-Man board game you see on the floor there. It was pretty dumb, if I recall — nothing could compare to playing the actual video game on our Atari 800 at the time. And another of my brother’s friends had the Pac-Man Fever album, but they never let me listen to it. I still hold it against them to this day.
Anyway, check out the other full scans below and behold the power of merchandising! Warning — the full images are pretty big. Enjoy!

Redwolf, this article is great, but it made me realize something. There will never be another “Pac-Man”, another simple yet insanely fun game that sells in droves. That’s kinda sad. 🙁

I remember wanting the board game — I thought it was cool the way Pac-Man would gobble up the marbles. But do you recall the Pac-Man bubblegum/trading card packs? They had scratch-off cards, where the object was to uncover as many pellets and power pills as you could before finding a ghost. I regularly spent my allowance buying as many as I could.

I can’t tell. Is the person wearing item #5 a chick or a dude?

That’s a chick, although “chick” is being EXTREMELY generous.

I had a Pac-Man fold-up TV dinner tray that doubled as a weapon in the countless Atari “reset” fights I had with my older brother.

Kitsune was proved kind of wrong with the passage of time. There have been a tonne of small hit games; like Bejewelled (I don’t personally like it); but now more iPhone games like Angry Birds are pretty ubiquitous!

I realize I am a tad late to the party but way back when I had the Pac-Man table top arcade game. So many hours of fun! Mine had the little so called “chargeable batteries” which were actually pass throughs that looked like batteries but needed to be plugged into an outlet to work.
