The recent increase in personal web page space has made it possible to bring up a new version of the MadMaze game.

Try it, you'll like it!

Thanks Dean!
It seems that PI can do most anything Classic was able to do
- with a bit of programming.

Russ, this is great! Do you happen to have a copy of Alice of Foundland's "tip sheet" too? If you do, if you could re-post it here, I'll bet that it would help the newbies get started. (Also, there was a glitch in the original game, one that kept players from getting past the Beast, I believe. The workaround was given on Alice's FAQ. Or have you fixed the problem in this version?)

Hi Old-Timer,
Glad to have you aboard! I will look around for some tips from Alice (SHXV61A). If not on disk, I'm sure to have a printout or two from those days. You can find her listed on the Scroll of Heroes, btw. And yes, the glitch is fixed in this latest version. It occurred after the "Rolling Hills" scene (which turns out to be a Dragon that blends in with its surroundings).
If enough old-timers return I'm sure there will be plenty of on line help for the newbies!

Have fun, Russ

It's official!
MadMaze-II is complete including level 3. Strange creatures await. The infamous "space maze" and other challenges lie between you and the "Moon of Madness". Once there, who knows?

To check that the latest program revision is running correctly on your browser, try the following cipher chant from the intro screen (pictured above):

Three pigs in pokes
Knit magic things.
The Insane One
A garden hoes.
When our time a trouble brings
Then enemies
prepare to lie:
Thy garden thou must tend.

If the cipher is successful, you should then be transported to the Inn of the Dragon Gules in maze #5.

Click on: MadMaze-II to start the game.

Sir Stile of Saratoga is the first MadMaze-II adventurer to successfully complete the entire game. Congratulations to a blue-ribbon member of the Scroll of Heroes!

Sure is good to see the return of MadMaze. Will have to do some digging to find my maps. I do have the cipher to enter the 2nd Maze - 1, 6, 2, 1, 7, 2, 2, 5. This takes you to Castle Perilous from which you leave for the 2nd Maze.
Hope a lot of people will join in the fun.

Welcome to the Classic Memories BB, Lady M!

Dean Speir, our board leader, and I were thinking that the game might bring some of the original players (and new players as well) to this BB for online discussions, hints, and help as in the good old days. So it's nice to see you here! Stay tuned in case someone posts a question that you can answer.

I have received some questions via email, such as the following:

Q. Hello just wanted to say it is so great madmaze is back I had missed the game very much. Well to the matter at hand. Obviously I have passed the game however it was many years ago and now I am stuck. I am at The Citadel of Osmet Khan and don't know where to go once in the castle. It seems as though I have to speak with the mighty Hassan but he either thanks me for stopping by and sends back to the center or gets mad at me and before I get killed or vanished I hit the letter "M" and restart again. please help thanks. I hope I sent this email to the right place if not could you please direct me as to where that place might be. Once again thanks so much for your time.
- LZ

A. Congratulations on making it as far into the game as you already have! I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the game as much as the original. As I recall, last time I visited the Citadel, you need to see Hassan in private before telling him the secret words. Otherwise, both of you will be accused of spying for the Sons of the Desert and attacked by Khan's followers. But, if you can gain his confidence, Hassan will help you on to the next level!

I have received some emails requesting help on the "space maze", so here is some info:

In the space maze, there are no visible walls as you may have noticed. The only way to tell where they are is to bump into one. Then you will see "Bop!", "Thud!", "Whap!", or "Thump!" depending on your direction of travel. If that happens, try a different direction and you will see open space ahead. The particular scene in space will also depend on your direction of travel. As long as you are not hitting the walls, you will be making progress through the maze. If you see "Floop!", don't worry and keep going ahead. At that point you are almost to the exit of the space maze where you will find the "Moon of Madness".

Great to see people making it this far into the game!

We have received word from another successful MadMaze player!

>New scroll entry: Johan the Devious

>What great memories. I was 13 the first time I played this
>(on my 2400 baud modem). "The White Peregrine" was my name on
>the scroll. Thanks for reviving this.

Reply to J.H.:

You're on the Scroll of Heroes - congratulations on successfully making it through the MadMaze!
Thanks for your nice comments. I was hoping that some of the original players would return and, as they used to say on Prodigy, "share the magic". So, pass the word along if you get a chance.

Thanks, Russ

I've gotten some email from players who have confronted the Mad One's Archpriest, but were not sure if he could actually be defeated (there are outcomes in MadMaze where you survive, only to become a servant of the Mad One). If that has happened to you, here is some help:

You can defeat the Archpriest and reach a more satisfying conclusion. Defy him for as long as you can, then when he finally strikes out at you, interpose the staff of the Lady. The staff will become charged with the energy of his blast. Then find a way to direct the staff's energy back at him and you will prevail! Persephone tries to help you too, but she can only give you a hint as to what to do.

See you on the Scroll of Heroes!

I'm going through again (got to invisible maze when it
was a prodigy online game) and I seem to be stuck in a loop.
I got past the flame river but then I get put back into the maze, same one as from after the canyon maze. I get to the caravan again, back to flame river and just seem to keep going through the loop. is this just not working in my browser or what.

Wecome to the Classic Memories Board!

Congrats on making it as far as you have into the MadMaze!

At the River of Flame you will need to store some water in a jug and give it to the Shaman. He will then give you a hint to help you face the next challenge (at the Twisted Temple).

The spell you need to chant before dipping the jug into the river is "Y Feuvet Mandimal!" After that you can find the Shaman by chanting "A Fimbator Baragon!" The Shaman will be delighted to see you and receive the jug of flaming water.

Have fun, there are many more challenges awaiting you!

OK, so I've defeated the Archpriest, signed the Scroll again, and then the window just goes blank. Shouldn't I be deposited back in Weith so I can... erm, deal with Wellan?

That's great - congratulations! You should not have gotten a blank screen, though. A message should have been sent out to put your character's name on the Scroll of Heroes, and then you should end up in the Silver Glade. I will check out that part of the game to see what's happening there.
As for Wellan, he would probably tell you what a good choice he made in sending you out to save civilization! (And of course he will always be there to send off more adventurers to tempt their fate.)

Its great to see MadMaze once again. I used to play it back in '95. Oh, the long hours lost... Anyway, I can't seem to get past the Giant Grove. I select the moss option and it says I'm at a gate, but the screen goes black and my cursor becomes an hourglass. I wait and wait but the screen doesn't change. Any ideas?

Hi Genz!
Glad you found your way back into the MadMaze. Please try the cipher chant shown in post #2135 above. That will take you to a location just after the Grove of Giants where you can continue on through the game. Let me know if this problem happens again, and have fun!

The last cipher code I found was "The bonds of time" one, but I'm way past thatcastle, and have already signed the scroll of heros. Did I just miss the other Cipher codes? And I can't start my game from where I left off. Does anyone have a code for me? Or any suggestions?

Hi Kelly!
Here's another one to try:

The bonds of time
Lie in the past.
The Argent Lass
A garden hoes.
If we, blind, force us to see
Then yarely bless
our loins gird:
Fight fervently for truth.

The cipher was much more important to the game before the "save" feature was added. Did you have a problem saving some particular location in the maze?
