The VC&G Thanksgiving Collection (2013 Edition)

Hello, and welcome to VC&G’s 2013 Thanksgiving Spectacular. I’m your host for this evening, Burt Edwards.
Thanksgiving is a great excuse to spend time with family around a four-player game of Gauntlet IV for the Sega Genesis. Or perhaps a Super Bomberman tournament. Or eight-player networked Atari Jaguar Battlesphere? Did I mention a 16-player Mario Kart Double Dash LAN battle?
One of each, please.

I spent many a holiday watching my little sisters playing the various Mario Bros. games. I also carted home my C-128 and my 1571 drive to play Bard’s Tale 2 and Dragon Wars one holiday. I also borrowed Shingen the Ruler from a friend in college one Thanksgiving holiday, took it home and actually finished the game over the Thanksgiving holiday.
The holidays can be about games. Whether watching siblings play or trying something new yourself. Spend some time, make some memories. That is what holidays are really about.

I took the Atari Jaguar to my brother’s house for Thanksgiving this year and we had an NBA Jam tournament with our 7 kids. We also played a little Defender 2000 and Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure. Pitfall was particularly awesome on his sound system. Anyway, it was loads of fun. Happy 20th to the Jag!

That sounds awesome, Josh (and I like John’s story too). I need to hook up my Jag again — I get a strange craving for Jaguar games around the holidays.
For Thanksgiving this year, we were stuck mostly with PlayStation 3 games, as most of my classic machines are still packed up after a move. But we ate so much Turkey that we barely had the energy to play anything at all by the time things settled down enough to do so. 🙂

All this holiday retro gaming talk brings back memories of playing the Atari 2600 at my cousin’s house after a big meal. The game’s controls were so simple, anyone could play.
