Hmm. I wonder what game this is a copy of?

Indeed. The most blatant Asteroids ripoff EVER.

On the bottom it says “Looking for new software”.
Hmm…
Pang
Gauntlot
Centifeet
Mario Bras
Dragon’s Liar

I hate to break it to you, Apronk, but Pang is a real game. And no, it is not similar to Pong, it’s considerably different.

That was classic, apronk. 🙂 Let’s hear some more.
I want to play Mario Bras. Are they Rastafarians or women’s undergarments?

Zack-son
Boulevard Fighter II Champion Edition
Spi Hunter
Q-Burt
Jowst
Karate Chump
Alerted Beats
Load Runner

Hehe, those were some good ones, Layne. Altered Beats (I know you said “Alerted”) sounds like it could be a geekcore rap group name. Karate Chump is a winner. Best of all is Load Runner, where someone tries to make it to the bathroom in time…
Then again, like Donkey King, I guess these are supposed to be straight clones of the originals. 🙂 Still, it’s fun to speculate.

Yes, Benj, I would imagine each misnamed game would have to mirror the original. But if you would like, I could come up with something…
“Mario Bras” is actually about two surfer brothers who end up in Cincinatti and get beat up by a hockey team until the realize hey he’s awesome then it all comes down to a wicked rollerblade race down the Devil’s Backbone. If anyone has no idea what I’m talking about that’s okay. When I hear the word “bra” I just automatically think of those daily hideous restriction devices I am supposed to wear, or this movie.

Pang is taken? Well at least it is not a knock-off of pong.
Pung then?
November 20th, 2007 at 12:49 pm
Nolan Bushnell has a four-player table-top version of Pong in his new uWink restaurant called “Ping.” But no there’s no Pung that I know of.
November 20th, 2007 at 2:27 pm
I would stay away from “Ping” just for the simple fact that it’s such a prevalent tech term. Gotta go w/ something wacky.

Don’t ask how I know this, but Chris Latham created “Donkey King.” Visit the address for a blast of Coco history.

Believe it or not, but I’ve actually seen that page before, Geoff. I though it was funny running into a page about the guy who made Donkey King a few months ago. But still, thanks for the link!

ISTR that Tom Mix was made to rename their game “The King” shortly after it was released.
Unfortunately, the copy I played was the cracked version that was “porned” up; even in those days it was fun to play with bitmaps…
