My personal favourite is the first GB release. While I do enjoy the dating sim element of the series, something about the purity of the GB version really appeals to me. It’s all about the farming. No distractions. Plus, the concept really works well in bitesized gaming sessions.

The only two I’m familiar with are A Wonderful Life (GameCube) and Friends of Mineral Town (GBA). But both are good fun, especially for someone like me who enjoys slow paced sim type games. Don’t let the cute graphics fool you, these games can be addicting (and tough).
Not sure if they’ve reached the ‘too many’ point yet…Maybe when we start seeing Mario and Sonic wandering about the town then it’ll be time to call it.

Natsume has most certainly made too many of these games. I collect Harvest Moon games and they still have made too many, with very few new elements. I remember purchasing one and then trying to justify it with “This one lets you raise Ostriches!” and realized that the series had jumped the shark.
That being said, this one is possibly the rarest in the series (with the possible exception of the very first one) but is the best. The N64 version had enough new things from the original without overworking the concept of the games.
