“Shhh! Don’t tell dad, but I got him a box of blank paper for Christmas.”
Merry Christmas from VC&G.

We got a new printer at the museum – scans, color, prints both sides – for $60 – and on Saturday we used it to print a Deed of Gift for an Atari 1400XLF – which doesn’t seem possible, but it’s Silicon Valley, where anything is possible. I’m going in later and will have to look at it more carefully. Pretty nice way to inaugurate a printer!

When I was searching for a job over the summer, I had to go to FedEx Office (formerly Kinko’s office) often with a USB drive in order to print out various things I needed to have signed before showing up to interviews (NDAs and such). I’ve never owned a printer because, for the rare times that I’ve ever needed to print something, I’ve always considered it a fringe benefit of any workplace to be able to use their printer. Not so when I was unemployed.

When I saw the post subject, I was expecting to see some Printshop dot matrix banners celebrating the season!

Today, something for work.
It’s amazing that business’s still run off of paper. In fact this past week I had to automate some excel functions for my buddy’s workplace to cut down paper use by 80%.

Last thing I printed was a confirmation of a charity donation to put in a Christmas card, but it didn’t even print out that well. I typically use a printer almost exclusively for printing out forms that have to be mailed, which doesn’t come up all that often.
Honestly, I get far more use out of my 3D printer than my inkjet. Last night, I printed out a plastic shark.

Today, building an audio amp and needed to print out some data sheets. I have a couple printers, an HP Deskjet 9800 that can print 11×17 and a HP LaserJet P2015 (with duplex).

Printed some recipes today. We actually print pretty often.

I’m old school: I print emails at work almost daily, walk over to the sender’s desk, speak in person, scribble diagrams on the paper, etc. I’m far more paperless than I used to be, but I still like reading & writing things on paper.

Besides the frequent printing I do at work (so I can have a physical copy of a PDF, or a paper PO to sign for accounting), I haven’t printed anything at home in a very very long time. Most printers I’ve had have bitten the dust due to planned obsolescence taking hold, so I haven’t bothered buying a new one.
