Sonic The Hedgehog Oddities
June 23rd, 2011 by Benj EdwardsTwenty years ago today, Sega released Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis. In honor of this anniversary, I dug through the lesser-known corners of blue hedgehog history and pulled together an amusing collection of Sonic Oddities for you to enjoy. You’ll find the result — which includes Sonic’s brushes with genetics, Michael Jackson, and even ketchup — compiled in a slideshow over at Technologizer. I hope you enjoy it.
Speaking of Sonic the Hedgehog, what did you think of the 1991 Sega Genesis game when you first played it?

I used to eat Sonic Spaghettios a lot as a kid. The rings were larger overall and there seemed to be more of the bigger ones. Plus the Sonics in there were tasty too.

I was so blown away that the SNES is the only Nintendo console I didn’t buy until years after its heyday, and I feel I made the right decision even to this day. I PRAY that Sonic Generations is the 3D Sonic game that I’ve been waiting for since 1996. I wasn’t crazy about Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 and every game since went downhill FAST.

I sold my Genesis a matter of weeks before this date in history, in order to get enough money to go to the first Lollapalooza festival. But I did watch my friends playing Sonic and loved not only the speed but the fluidity of the level design. I’m that more rare type of Sega fan who is not really that into Sonic, but I can understand why many people are (although not to the extent of some of the more hysterical fanatic doomsayer type Sonic fans)… it’s really a tour de force of inspired game design.

what came to my mind, when i first played Sonic was Speed! this game move very fast! compared to Mario, this looked better. but then i quickly realized, that my reflexes weren’t quick enough to play both Sonic and Mario.. hahaha
